Mr. Barker has been a supervisor on the Wilkes Soil & Water Conservation
District Board since 1997. He lives on a small family farm which
includes raising beef cattle and forestry. He is a member of the
Wilkes County Senior Citizens Council and the Wilkes County Association
of Retired School Personnel. Mr. Barker served as Wilkes County
Commissioner from 1990-1994. He retired after 37 years of service
in the Wilkes County School system having taught agriculture at North
Wilkes High School, served as Principal at Traphill Elementary, Ronda
Clingman Elementary, and East Wilkes High School, and was Director of
Career and Technical Education. He was also employed as the
Director of Career and Technical Education in the Yadkin County School
system. He holds an Ed.S. and a Master of Arts degree from
Appalachian State University, a Bachelor of Science degree from NC State
University, and is a graduate of East Wilkes High School. He has
three children and two grandchildren. He is also a deacon,
trustee, a Sunday School teacher in Benham Baptist Church, as well as a
member of Farm Bureau.

Mr. Shew is a Wilkes County
third generation farmer living and farming in the eastern section of
Wilkes County. He is currently serving his second term as a Wilkes
Soil and Water Supervisor. He also serves on the Wilkes County
Farm Bureau and Wilkes Telecommunications boards. He is a member
of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where he serves as a deacon.
Claude is an advocate for 4H, and teaching young people the importance
of agriculture. This includes good land and water stewardship.
His wife, Vickie, works for the Wilkes County Cooperative Extension
Service. They have two children. Chris is a full-time
farmer, and Karrie teaches for the Wilkes County School System.
They have three grandsons.
Mr. Carter has been a
supervisor on the Wilkes Soil and Water Conservation District Board
since 1982. He is a lifelong farmer and lives on a family farm in
the Lomax Community where he raises beef cattle on 200 acres and manages
a poultry operation. He received the Conservation Award from the
Woodmen of the World in 1983 and was presented the Goodyear Conservation
Award of Merit for Outstanding Accomplishments in Resource Conservation
in 1988. Mr. Carter is a member of the NC Farm Bureau and NC State
Grange. He is also a member of the Shepherd's Cross Roads
Volunteer Fire Department, and serves as President of the Board of
Directors. Ted is a director of the Clingman Medical Center, and
serves as Treasurer. He is married with two children and five
grandchildren. He is also the choir director and a member of Oak
Level Baptist Church.

Dr. Davis has been
a supervisor on the Wilkes Soil and Water Conservation District Board
since 1991. He lives at Claymont Hill, his family farm where he is a
fourth generation owner. In 1981, he was a recipient of the District’s
Conservation Farm Family Award. He served as chairman of Area II Soil
and Water Conservation Districts in 1994-95, 2005-06 and was a
commission member of the North Carolina Soil & Water Conservation
Commission 1999-2002. He is currently President and charter board
member of the North Carolina Foundation for Soil & Water Conservation, a
position he has held since its inception in 1999. He is Chairman of the
N.C. Assoc. of Soil & Water Conservation Districts Hall of Fame
Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Wilkes County Agricultural Hall of Fame
Board and member of the Blue Ridge Resource Conservation & Development
Council. A career in education has allowed Dr. Davis to be a public
school teacher for 8 years and an administrator in the North Carolina
Community College System for more than 23 years. He holds a doctorate
degree in Education, a Masters Degree in Public School Administration
and a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science. After retiring from Wilkes
Community College in 1989 as Vice-President of Development, he created
and managed Planning & Development Associates. Under his leadership as
President from 1989 until 2000, Planning & Development Associates
conducted feasibility studies, managed capital campaigns and provided
fundraising services to over 50 colleges, universities and non profit
organizations throughout the United States. He is married with three
children and nine grandchildren. He has been an active church member
for many years where he has served as deacon and Sunday-School teacher.

Mr. Myers has been a supervisor on the
Wilkes Soil and Water Conservation District Board since 1981. He is a
dairy farmer with a milking herd of 700 animals. He plants some 600
acres of corn silage and small grain, manages 200 acres of pasture and
hay land and 100 acres of woodland. Mr. Myers currently serves as
chairman of Carolina Farm Credit, on the board of directors of Maryland
/Virginia Milk Producers Association, and a member of the NC Dairy
Foundation, NC Dairy Producers Association, VA State Dairy Association
and NC Farm Bureau. He is a recipient of the Marvin E. Senger Dairy
Farmer Award in 2001, has received the Outstanding Young Farmers Award
and was third highest in NC for Energy-Corrected Milk at 27,343 pounds
ECM. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree from NC State University.
He is married with three children and one grandchild. He is also a
member of the First Baptist Church in Elkin.
