Envirothon for Middle & High School Students

It is time to start preparing for this years Envirothon.  The Envirothon program is a competitive event for a team of middle (6-8th graders) or high school (9-12th graders) to test their knowledge in soils, forestry, wildlife, aquatics, and current environmental issues against other teams across the region and state.  It is also a great way for educators to meet some of the new environmental science objectives.

Once a team has registered, a packet of resource materials will be provided to your team.  Five members may be on each team. Each team may have alternates.  The members must have an advisor. Competition is open to ecology clubs, home study groups, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, soil judging teams, 4H groups, environmental clubs, Vo. Ag. groups or any group interested in participating.

There is an area level competition in Wilkes County on a date to be announced. Wilkes Soil & Water will pay the registration fee for the area level winner to attend the state level competition which will also be announced.  The competition consists of a written test with approximately 25 questions some of which will be identification type questions.  The students will work together as a team to answer the questions.  The first place winner in the state will receive an expense paid trip to the National competition.

If you would like registration forms or would like to see a video on the Envirothon, please call Lorraine Spears at 838-3622 ext. 3. The Envirothon manual is located here.
